It seems as though the first question people ask with regards to hemorrhoids, is whether or not they can be treated effectively, and to be honest with you, the answer you get will depend largely on who you speak to.

Eastern and Oriental Medicine
Generally speaking, in the east they focus on treating a person rather than a specific condition. As such, they believe that by treating a person as a whole, a person’s system will be able to repair itself once any imbalances have been corrected.
Because they tend to take this approach, receiving treatment will usually require you to change your diet. Essentially, you’ll be required to change what you eat, when you eat, and also, how you eat.
In fact, Eastern medicine will also require you to make changes with regards to what you drink, when you drink, and even the temperatures of the things you drink.
In Chinese culture they believe that it is beneficial for you to drink a warm drink at meal times and also directly afterwards so that it can help move the food along through your system. Furthermore, warm drinks also help to assist the passing of fat through the system.
If you think about it, this is actually a very logical approach considering that constipation and a lack of fiber increases your chances of suffering from hemorrhoids substantially.
The vast majority of hemorrhoids treatments in the East will consist of a mixture of herbs and roots in order to obtain the desired results.
Western Medicine
Unlike Eastern medicine, Western medicine focuses on treating the symptoms directly, together with trying to eliminate the route cause.
In the vast majority of cases doctors will prescribe a combination of suppositories and creams. Furthermore, you’ll usually be told to start eating more fresh fruit and vegetables, and don’t be surprised if you are also told to start drinking more water. Even though surgery may be necessary in the most severe cases, the most common approach to controlling the problem is to learn how to manage it.
The most commonly used medications include: Hydrocortisone, Arnica, Zinc Oxide, and various astringents.
Homeopathic Medicine
This approach is based on the principle of treating “like with like”, in that you’ll be introduced to various compounds which are known to cause a certain symptom in an otherwise healthy person. It is believed that when such compounds are given to an unhealthy individual, it in turn causes the body to begin healing itself.
Interestingly enough, there are many cases where such treatment has proven to be successful, even when no other treatments have. Furthermore, such treatments are for the most part considered to be perfectly safe.
The most common ingredients used are: Horse Chestnut (leaves and seeds), Arnica and Paeonia Officialis.
Aromatherapy
It is perhaps rather unfortunate that so many people tend to view aromatherapy as being something which only new age hippies practice, when in actual fact aromatherapy treatment often proves to be very successful.
To put this into perspective, let’s look at people who sniff glue for example. They inhale the fumes of the glue in order to get high, so why should it not be possible to achieve a physical response by inhaling the fumes of other compounds?
Generally speaking, aromatherapy is based on the use of essential oils which are blended in carriers, such as sweet Almond oil for example. The diluted oil can then be applied directly to the affected area so that the compounds within the oil can be absorbed through the skin in order to provide relief.
The most commonly used oil for treating the hemorrhoids is Rose Geranium oil.
